What Is Sip A Craft?

Welcome to the world of craft beer, where you’ll learn about the industry, select beers, recipes, examples, and much, much more. I created this blog to help others that have the same questions I used to have about beer, like “Why should you use a specific beer glass?” or “What’s a Mosaic hop?” and even “What’s the difference between a pale ale and India pale ale?”

Questions like these have been answered in easy-to-read blog articles here on the website. Enjoy fun, engaging, educational, and professional posts on the industry, homebrewing, opinion pieces, trends, and many other topics in the beer world.

Craft Beer - Sip A Craft

How did I decide to start a craft beer blog?

Well, it started as I was pacing the aisles of a local craft beer bottle shop. I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by the vast and rather intimidating selection of IPAs, lagers, blonde ales, stouts, sours, and so forth. Without much more thought, as I browsed what felt like a million different products, I made my purchase and headed home. I hadn’t yet realized the spark of curiosity and desire I felt from my trip to the beer store that day.

Days went on and nights passed. I drank more craft beer styles, and each time I looked at the selection in my favorite store, I noticed new terminology on an IPA or lager that seemed like a foreign language to me. What’s an Imperial or Session beer?, and what does “dry-hopped” mean? What exactly is a harvest beer or a cold IPA?

I quickly realized just how deep craft beer is and how many different styles there are. I sought to learn more about these descriptions, styles, ingredients, and such behind craft beer and concluded that others were likely in the same position as me. I decided to do some digging.

Before I could even mention to anyone the equally daunting and wondrous thoughts I was having, a friend of mine said something while we were out for a drink that helped solidify my decision to write a craft beer blog. He said, on a Saturday night during a walk through the city, “I like IPAs, but I don’t understand them anymore.” I was shocked by the relatability.

On the same weekend, as my friends and I gathered at a brewery for chit-chat, dinner, a few beers and an inviting atmosphere, one of my buddies explained how she felt about craft beer.

“It’s a guy’s drink,” she said. “When I think of craft beer, I think of some dude in a flannel shirt.”

I apologize to all my flannel-wearing, craft beer-drinking comrades, but she had a point; just 2% of breweries in the United States are owned and operated by women. Their male counterparts, although I’m not sure how many of them actually wear flannels (probably a lot), make up almost all of the ownership of craft breweries in the country. Saying that craft beer is a guy’s drink, however, is far from the truth.

After my stimulating trips to the craft beer store and talking to friends about the trials and tribulations of Milkshake IPAs and other industry fads, I knew a creative and informative place for curious beer enjoyers to learn was long overdue. Gone are the days when craft beer was intimidating. The culture and history of beer are meant for everyone regardless of gender, sex, religion, or skin color. Today, we have a source for all things craft beer; you’re looking at it.

I created this blog to inform, break barriers, and lift the stigma surrounding craft beer. It doesn’t have to be complicated, not all beers are dry-hopped, and you don’t have to wear flannels to drink and learn about craft beer. If you’re like me and my friends and you’d rather further understand beer instead of gatekeeping it, you’ve come to the right place.

At Sip A Craft, you’ll find recommendations, information, entertainment, new products, and more, all rooted in the enjoyment of and desire to learn about beer. We’ve created an equal playing field for readers to consume informative, friendly, and fun content centered around our shared interests and like-mindedness.
